SkyOiler 360™ — Operator Reference

Machine Setup & Lubrication Guide

Complete process from site arrival to pack-up. Use the dial calculator in Phase 3 before your first run. Refer to your Owner's Manual for mounting configurations, system operation, and machine care.

Phase 1 — Set up

Packing list

SkyOiler 360 system
Universal mounting bracket
Paper towels
Mini shop vacuum(optional)
Approved lubricant — Nylube Lubri-Cable® or Castrol Tribol WR 4600
Owner's Manual
Using a different lubricant? Contact us before applying it — we'll test it and add it to the approved list if it passes.

On site — confirm your mounting option

Owner's Manual — Mounting Options The universal bracket supports several configurations depending on elevator type and rope arrangement. Check the Mounting Options section before assembling. Using the wrong configuration affects brush contact and lubricant distribution.
Phase 2 — Cleaning pass

Always clean before lubricating. Lubricant over dirt traps contaminants and accelerates rope wear.

1
Send the elevator to the bottom floor
2
Engage the brushes and felt pads to the ropes
3
Run elevator to the top floor — (pump off)
Repeat as required to achieve the desired rope condition.
4
Inspect brushes before lubricating
Vacuum debris from brushes if you have a shop vac. Check for wear — replace worn brushes before lubricating. Worn brushes apply oil unevenly.
Phase 3 — Dial setting

Assess rope condition

Rope state
Description
Coating (mm)
Dry
Run 2 passes.
0.011
Normal
Run 1 pass.
0.011
Prone to Slippage

0.007
Slippage-sensitive installation?

If the manufacturer or site records indicate slippage concern — or you observe traction slip — use 0.007 mm maximum regardless of rope condition. Never exceed this on slippage-sensitive systems.

Calculate your starting dial

mL / meter
per rope
Starting Dial Setting
baseline

This is a starting point — confirm with a one-floor test run in Phase 4 before doing the full rope.

Dial setting — pump volume output mL / min at each dial position
Phase 4 — Lubrication

Confirm your dial setting first

1
Bring the elevator to the top floor. Engage the brushes.
Set the lubricant dial to 35, and turn the pump on. Run the pump until lubricant is visible on the brush heads. Turn the pump off, then adjust the dial to your calculated starting setting before beginning rope lubricating.
Fob: Press to start pump. Press again to stop once lubricant is visible on brush heads.
2
Start pump — run one floor down
Fob: Press to start. Pump runs continuously during descent.
3
Stop pump — return to top with brushes engaged
4
Inspect coating — adjust dial if needed

Check the test section. A correct coating is:

Even and consistent across all ropes
Glossy sheen — visible but not wet or runny
Not dripping or running down the rope

Too dry → increase dial 2–3 increments and re-run. Running/pooling → reduce 2–3 increments and re-run.

5
Record dial setting and oil volume.
6
Lubricate the Ropes
You are now ready to lubricate the ropes. As the elevator returns to the top floor, keep the brushes engaged to help distribute the lubricant evenly across the rope surface and into the strands.
Good result: consistent sheen top to bottom, no dry patches, no oil running down. Lay of rope visible but surface clearly coated.
Slippage sensitive

One pass at a time. Verify traction between passes before applying more.

Dry rope

Two lighter passes (0.011 mm each) beats one heavy pass for penetration and even coverage.

Phase 5 — Pack up
1
Disengage the brushes and felt pads.
2
Disconnect and cap lubricant lines.
3
Remove the mount — or leave it installed

Many contractors leave the universal mount on the ropes between visits for faster setup next time. You can also leave the oiling heads attached — just disconnect and cap the lines.

If removing: slide mount off ropes, inspect for wear, wipe down, and pack.

4
Clean brushes, inspect felt, pack case

Vacuum debris from brushes if you have a shop vac. Inspect felt on the brush mount — replace if worn or saturated. Pack everything into the case.

Owner's Manual — Machine Care For pump maintenance, tube inspection, brush and felt replacement intervals, and storage guidelines, see the Care & Maintenance section.
Maintenance complete. Most traction elevators: clean and lubricate at least twice per year. High-use or dusty environments: more frequently.
